THE YEAR OF THE HORSE
THIS YEAR MY HUSBAND AND I CHOSE TO HONOR OUR CANADIAN FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS WITH A PARTY ON THE FIRST NIGHT OF THE CHINESE NEW YEAR'S CELEBRATION.
I FOUND THESE WONDERFUL ANTIQUE PAPER LANTERNS AT A CONSIGNMENT STORE IN PHOENIX.
MY HUSBAND AND I SHOPPED AT THE CHINESE CULTURAL EXCHANGE MARKETS IN PHOENIX AND I FOUND THIS WONDERFUL SILK SCROLL. EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE YEAR OF THE HORSE, MY HOROSCOPE SIGN IS PISCES AND I THOUGHT THIS PARTICULAR SCROLL WAS SIGNIFICANT FOR MY FRONT DOOR!
WHILE BUYING A JACKET FOR MY HUSBAND'S COSTUME, THE STORE OWNERS GAVE US THESE COLORFUL POSTERS FOR OUR PARTY. SO WE SET UP A PHOTO SHOOT FOR EVERY GUEST. DON AND I ARE BELOW.
FRIENDS WERE RESOURCEFUL IN FINDING COSTUMES!
THIS PARTY WAS A SIT DOWN DINNER FOR 20. I HAD TO USE THE DINING ROOM, THE KITCHEN ISLAND AND A GAME TABLE TO ACCOMMODATE EVERYONE.
THE FOOD WAS POT LUCK AND WE HAD THE MOST WONDERFUL DISHES!
SINCE EVERYONE BROUGHT FOOD, WE MADE GENERAL TAO'S ORANGE CHICKEN, SHRIMP TOASTS, A ORANGE/SPARKLING WINE PUNCH, CUPCAKES WITH CHERRY BLOSSOM DECORATIONS, CHERRY BLOSSOM COOKIES AND A GOOD LUCK ORANGE DESSERT.
THE ENTIRE HOUSE WAS DECORATED WITH ALL THE CHINESE THINGS THAT I HAD AT THIS HOME, EXCEPT THE BLUE AND WHITE EXPORT WARE.
EVERYONE WENT HOME WITH A FAVOR...MORE FORTUNE COOKIES AND A TANGERINE FOR LUCK!
